The next step in my “From Loop to Layout” series evolves beyond the basic loop and passing sidings into adding a little bit of interest, by adding some “universal industries” and a basic way to operate them. This video shows how adding a few spur tracks can add some interest, and even shows a way how basic operations can be done on a small layout.

While this is N-Scale, the principles here are transferrable to any scale.
