One of the most challenging model train track plans are to produce every thing based on a theme. You can choose from a large number of various themed styles to follow and create. You can replicate a certain time period from history. Some of the most popular to produce are the wonderful period from the 18 hundreds which usually have the train running through little outlying towns and communities.
There are a large number of model train track plans. However these model train track plans are usually classified into two types: the continuous run designs and the modular variations.
Initially when i first began with model train trains, the only way to design the model train track back then would be to painstakingly draw all of them out by hand. This meant any errors had to be removed or scribbled out and redone. It was somewhat of a hit and miss approach which took an awfully long time and a lot of ability to get perfect. The issue was that even if you had drawn everything you thought were great plans, they would not at times work out perfectly in real life and adjustments had to be included simply because you’d added a mistake in the design.
Move forward into the present day and the entire process has been made a great deal easier by using specialist software programs, which are designed for the function to assist you with producing your model train track plans. If you are not technical, fear not as these can vary from quite simple pieces of point and click software programs, right to far more comprehensive pieces of equipment if that’s what you are after.

*A fixed 8 track: This is among the most well-known model railway track plans. This design has one track which runs around two ovals. It’s possible to run 2 trains on this track but you have to make certain that they do not collide.
* A main line terminus: This is one of the more intricate model railway track plans. This plan allows the train which is leaving the train station to choose any track through the two crossovers points. Additionally, it allows the incoming train to choose one of the 4 platforms which are an integral part of this plan. Apart from these it also includes a storage siding intended for locomotives, coaches and carriage.
* A round track with sidings and branch line: This is among the simplest model railway track plans. When you are a novice in the train modelling world this track plan is your best for yourself.|In this plan you are able to run your train inside a clockwise path. The sidings are then available to receive the loco’s coaches on one part and it has a goods shed on the opposite side.

This is my custom set-up featuring both the Hogwarts Express (from Harry Potter) and the Polar Express G Gauge Battery-Operated R/C Train Sets by Lionel. (Also featured around the Christmas Tree is a slightly customized battery-operated 2-6-0 train by Echo.)
The original lionel trains each only come with 1 engine, 1 tender, and 2 cars, along with each 12 curved tracks and 4 straight tracks. I went ahead and bought two of each train so I could expand my track layout and also have a longer train (the extra engines just sit in the train yard as back-ups).
So this is my current set-up: 48 curved tracks (some unused), 16 straight tracks. Polar Express 2-6-2 engine, 2 tenders, 2 coaches, 2 observation cars. Hogwarts Express 4-6-0 Engine, 1 tender, 2 coaches, 2 combination cars.
Both trains run off the same frequency, however come with slightly different remotes. Both remotes control variable speed in both forward and reverse, and have seperate buttons for the whistle and bell sounds. However, the Polar Express has an extra button which sounds the “All aboard! This is the Polar Express!” (in Tom Hanks’ voice). When you press this button the Hogwarts Express has an unintended hidden feature: it plays continuous Christmas Music!!! My guess is they used the same chip as the previous christmas train set.
Also, the Hogwarts Express is much faster than the Polar Express due to it’s larger wheels, but lacks the torque and pulling power of the slower but stronger Polar Express. This is also in part due to the fact that the Polar Express features TWO motors which drive its main wheels, while the Hogwarts Express only has one. Also, the Polar Express has rubber traction bands around 4 main wheels while the Hogwarts Express only has band around 2.
Also, the Hogwarts Express seems to consume batteries much faster than the Polar Express. Both trains have female plug-in receivers for optional rechargeable 9.6 volt battery packs (not included), though due to the shape of the Polar Express’ tender, I’ve read the battery pack will not fit with the lid on without modifaction. The Hogwarts’ tender will probably fit a standard pack though.
I love these trains!
