The Railway Enthusiast’s Club held it’s Model Railway Exhibition at the Woking Leisure Centre on 9th and 10th September 2017. In this video there are 5 layouts shown, I hope you enjoy.

Much Murkle
Selsey Town Station
Ballyconnell Road

Selsey Town Station – 1925 – O scale and gauge – Exhibited by Keith Smith
The layout portrays a fairly accurate scene of Selsey as it would have appeared in 1925 and is modelled at a scale of 7mm to the foot (known as ‘O’ gauge). The baseboards for the layout were constructed professionally by Old Barn Model Craftsman, who also laid the Marcway hand built lightweight track work and installed the electrics. The back scene was painted by a local artist, Lawrie Crisp, and is a good representation of the scene at this time.

Locomotives running on the layout have been constructed in the main by John Chillman, a member of the Wittering and District Railway Circle, and painted by Colin Hayward.

The scenery has been built using a variety of methods, as have the buildings which are all scratch built. The railway bungalow under construction and the blacksmith’s barn are both figments of my imagination, but have been added to create interest.

Thirdley LMS Layout – Exhibited by Woking Miniature Railway Society Modellers – OO Gauge
Thirdley is an imaginary town in the vicinity of Wigan, Lancashire. It is severed by the L.M.S, (ex L&Y) railway between Manchester and Preston. The station lies at the junction of this line and a single track branch to a nearby market town.
The model depicts the junction in 1940-44 when the country was at war. The station buildings are based on Wigan Wallgate. Other buildings are based on L&Y prototypes elsewhere. Pointwork is a handbuilt, many items being designed to suit their particular location. Rolling stock is a mixture of ready-to-run, kits and scratchbuilt. Some special vehicles show wartime operation. Trains are run to a sequence and control is analogue (DC)

Much Murkle Layout – Exhibited by Nick Wood – O Gauge
Much Murkle; population 1452 according to the 1931 census is set in a fictitious 1930’s community in Herefordshire and is served by a single track branch from the equally fictitious junction at Newent on the Gloucester to Hereford Line.

The branch is just 8 miles long, with one intermediate station at the village of Kempstone and a small halt serving Sollers Hall.

There is a rail served Quarry located approximately 1 mile outside of Much Murkle. All trains departing the quarry have to be reversed at the terminus due to the quarry having no run round facility making for more interesting stock movements.

The quarry is not the only significant industry using the line. Rancoutt Cider use the branch to distribute their fine cider and perry to the outside world. Vans from all of the big four rail companies can be found in their sidings.

Dentdale Layout – On30 Gauge – Exhibited by Wayne Webb, Tony Frazer & Bob Taylor

Dentdale was inspired by the high altitude moorland sections of the Settle Carlisle Railway. The layout runs from the north entrance of the Blea Moor Tunnel, crosses the Dent Head and Arten Gill viaducts and ends at Dent Station.

Rolling stock is mainly ready to run stock some of which is weathered. A few N Gauge Society kits are also run on the layout. All the stock that is used on the Dendale is based on photographs from the era that we are operating on a particular day.

As the Settle & Carlisle line has changed relatively little over the years and still boasts semaphore signalling and buildings painted in authentic Midland colours, this allows us to represent any period from the 1950’s to the present day. This video is running fifties and sixties stock.

Ballyconnell Road – Exhibited by Irish Group 3mm Society

Welcome to the Irish Riviera, Country Sligo, and its wonderful beaches. Atlantic rollers and the barytes mining operations which brought the railway to this part of Ireland in 1866. It is now 1955 and the few tourists and remnants or the barytes industry are just about justifying the continued operation of this distant outpost of the International Great Northern Railway of Ireland.

Our circular baseboard is cut from 9mm ply with side and end supports and cross strengthens also in ply and supported on 1”x1” legs. Scenery is built on usual plaster base with Woodland Scenics detail. The road is ply and incorporates a modified “Faller” road system. Buildings are scratchbuilt in plastic sheet or Das covered ply.

Locos and stock are either scratchbuilt or modified kit and use B&B couplings. Most of the track is typical British bullhead using 3mm society rail, plastic chairs and wooden sleepers.
