A scale model of an Amtrak passenger train runs on my outdoor train layout. This is an MTH-brand model train which is now out of production and difficult to purchase. I was lucky to find one available!

This is a G scale model train, which is one of the largest types of model railroads for home use… far larger than the most popular size of model trains: HO scale. While LGB is the best known brand of G-scale trains, MTH is a smaller manufacturer that makes some very high quality equipment. They produce in limited quantities, and this makes their trains hard to come by!

I shot this video in a different way from my previous model train videos, as an experiment to see if I could improve the quality of the video and audio. I used a GoPro Hero 5 Session to get the video, and used an independent microphone and digital audio recorder, for the audio. Let me know if you like the quality of the audio and video.

I didn’t actually create this video with the intent of sharing it on YouTube… I was just testing the new method of shooting the video and getting the sound. But I liked the way it turned out so much, that I decided to share it after all.
