For fans of serious miniaturization, here’s a clip of the ultra tiny “nano” train layout I recently made. The train and track kit come from idlmotors (I have no commercial association with this company). A model rail purist would argue that this is not a proper model train as the rolling stock is driven along a circuit-board track by a linear motor. The engine and carriages are just magnets. They measure approx. 8 mm high, 3 mm wide and 28 mm long, so they’re significantly tinier even than the amazingly small T-gauge trains.
I’m thinking of smartening up the train by painting it in colours more closely resembling a real engine and coaches, in place of the original christmas decoration silver, but that will require some serious magnification and concentrated attention. The sounds, by the way, are provided by the control box that’s buried beneath the layout.
